River Borne Outfitter’s offers half, full, and multi-day guide trips out of the Deschutes River Fly Shop and Camp. We are located across the highway from the Lower Deschutes River and just a few miles from the the Warm Springs put in making us the most approximate guide service to this section of the “Blue Ribbon” Lower Deschutes River. Our proximity to the river guarantees we are in the know and on the fish. You would be hard pressed to find a guide service that spends more time on this section of the Deschutes! Day and overnight camp trips for native “Redside” rainbow trout are available on the Deschutes from April into November. Day and overnight steelhead trips are available September into November, steelhead runs permitting.
Our fly fishing lessons are a real hit as well. We offer a unique class where the first part of the class is taught in the fly shop, then out onto the lawns learning to cast, followed up with an after noon walk and wade guide trip! The “Beginning Fly Fish Deschutes River Class” is available all season long.
We also offer half and full day walk in trips on the Crooked River for native trout and guided and unguided private lake options in the spring, early summer and fall.
Deschutes River Fly Fishing Guide Trip Options
One of the things that sets us apart is our location and proximity to the river, and our exceptional local guides. As a result we can offer some unique trip options including walk in trips, and 3/4 day trips in the summer. But the best trip options are the full day floats and multi-day camp trip adventures!
Day Floats ~ (Warm Springs – Trout Creek)
This is a 10 mile float in to a scenic high desert river canyon. This roadless stretch offers great scenery and tons of great water to fish! Full day guide trips include 8 hours of guided fishing, equipment rentals, and a lunch! The season begins the third week in April and quickly transitions into the most popular hatch on the river.
Seasons ~ The spring (late April-early May) is pre-hatch time, fishing is usually good then as the river has just opened up for the season (third week in April) and the fish are hungry from a long winter! Historically the Salmon fly hatch (mid May into June) provides the best dry fly fishing of the season. Large dry flies = big takes from big fish! The most popular time to fish the river.. for good reason! This can be a busy time, and your best bet to get a from the crowds is to book a camp trip!
Camp Trips are the premiere Deschutes River experience.Three and four day float trips into the “Wild and Scenic” section of the Lower Deschutes River. Rugged scenery, great fishing, luxurious camps and food, and great camaraderie makes for an unforgettable experience. A gear boat and camp host is used to secure and set our camps. No work required by clients! Float into camp with your tent already set up. Nothing to do but get out of your waders and grab a cocktail. Then sit back, relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery and camp camaraderie!
All camp equipment and food provided! Double occupancy outfitter tents, cots, and a dining tents make for a deluxe camp. For more info Read More…
Summer time is caddis time on the Deschutes!
Early and late in the day and sometimes through out the day, the dry fly fishing can be exceptional in the summer. This can be a little more technical fishing, but also more rewarding and typically a less busy time of year. Where warm summer evenings are spent wet wading the river stalking “heads” and casting to large rising trout sipping small bugs in the fading light! …It does not get much better. No wonder this is the staffs favorite time of year on the river!
