Now Booking 2024 Season!

Happy New Year!! Time to put last year in the past and turn our sights toward 2024 and the upcoming season! Currently we are focused on winter projects at the camp, hiring for next season, and of course booking trips!
This is the time of year to lock down one of our limited camp trips down into the “Wild & Scenic” sections of the Deschutes River!
With deluxe river side dining…
and beautiful evenings spent outside!
Days spent floating and fishing between camps with lunch being the only real obligation of the day. Relax as we do all the work rowing and setting up camps. No work involved for the clients!
The most popular time for Deschutes guide trips is the spring during the Salmonfly hatch. These dates typically book up, but we still have a few dates available! Historically mid May through Memorial weekend is the best time to try and target the hatch. Though the weeks prior and after this period can be good as well.
June into early July can be a great time for a Deschutes guide trip as well. The caddis hatch is going on strong then, the river less busy and the weather is great!
The fall is another great time on the river.  This our favorite time of year on the Deschutes with beautiful, crisp, cool mornings and days spent chasing both trout and steelhead!
Available from Warm Springs to Trout Creek, from April – November! An epic 10 mile float with great fishing and scenery!  The put in is just down river from the camp. Book now to lock in prime Salmonfly dates! Read More…

The Following Positions..

Year Round Maintenance Caretaker ~

We are looking for a year round caretaker, grounds keeper, security & maintenance person to come join our team. You need to have your own RV and be a jack of all trades type with experience in lawn care, plumbing, light carpentry, building maintenance, etc.. Experience camp hosting or working at a RV park a plus.. a love of fly fishing and experience in the fly fishing industry also a plus!

Compensation will be in trade for a full hook up RV site, and a stipend. Depending on the level of involvement with the business.
This a great option for that semi-retired guy, gal, or couple. Or someone that has remote work abilities. Or for those that want to live in a van down by the river and get paid!

Seasonal camp/shop staff ~

We are also accepting applications for seasonal staff positions for this upcoming season. Primary duties would be working in the fly shop & deli and around the camp, helping with the daily operations and maintenance of the campground. This is a really fun job that runs about 6-7 months. Experience (or desire to get experience) in the fly fishing industry needed. Other qualifications that would apply would be experience in the outdoor retail, food service, lodging & hospitality. Lots of experience and knowledge about fly fishing and the Deschutes River also important. Being tool savy with experience with landscaping, light carpentry, and maintenance also a plus.. More importantly they would also need experience fishing, guiding, and boating on the Deschutes or equivalent and rowing class III+ whitewater. Deschutes River Steelhead Update – 2022 Season

Deschutes River 2022 Steelhead Update

We are excited to pass on the news that the Deschutes River opens to steelhead fishing for the 2022 season August 15th. This is great news considering last year was the first time the river was shut down because of low returns. Returns this year are a bit of a surprise, but improving ocean conditions are aiding in comeback with all Columbia basin anadromous fish stocks seeing improved numbers this summer.

As a result we will be offering day and multi day guide trips for steelhead and combo trips targeting both trout and steelhead this fall. It takes awhile for good numbers of fish to get into our section of the river (the upper most section of the lower Deschutes)
Late October and November, even December (though we are closed for the season at that point) is when the fish really start to stack up in the Warm Springs area and when fishing is best there. We offer day trips targeting steelhead starting in at this time floating the day stretch (Warm Springs to Trout Creek) and combo trout/steelhead trips through out the fall.

We also offer multi-day, fully outfitted camp trips lower in the river where you can target steelhead a bit earlier. Combo trips where we spend some time targeting trout and then focus on steelhead later in the drift as we get farther down river is also a good option during the camp trips. You are guaranteed some good action on trout, and hooking an anadromous fish or two makes for the icing on the cake!

Feel free to give a ring or email if you have any interest, or questions in regards to steelheading on the Deschutes this coming season!

We are hiring for the 2022 season!

We are always looking for good additions to the family. We have been lucky to have some great help at the camp. Every new hire brings new energy and something to contribute. With the addition of the RV park, and the growth of the business over the last few years we are now needing to add a few more positions! This is a great opportunity for someone looking to break into the fly fishing industry, or for someone who has possibly been working for a bigger outfit and wants more responsibility and days! Being a smaller company our employees benefit from hands on training and lots of work and opportunities to be trained in various aspects of the business! Dependable, hard workers will find lots of room for advancement and great opportunities to make good money! We are looking to hire…

For the following positions

  • Fishing guides – We have two positions to fill on the guide front. They could be filled by one person at a minimum but ideally we would like to add two more guides to the staff. Our biggest priority is for a gear runner (bagger) on the camp stretch. And also for a fishing guide. All guides need to have, or be able to acquire valid cpr/first aid cards. Fishing guides need a guide license (we can help with both) fishing guides also need a drift boat, with a dependable trailer and dependable vehicle to tow. Plus multiple years of fly fishing experience, ideally with guide experience and experience fishing and boating the Deschutes. We will train the right person(s) and this could be a great opportunity for someone to break into the industry as long as they have a good attitude, willingness to learn and have the fishing and boating experience to base on.
  • Bagger – The requirements for this position are experience running class 3-4 whitewater, ideally with experience running the Deschutes from Warm Springs to Maupin . Be safety conscience, be able to work alone and work well with others, be physically fit enough to handle 2-3 hours of rowing a day plus the 5-6 hours of labor setting up and breaking down camps. Be able to follow directions well. And be able to handle working outside in a wilderness environment typically alone for multiple days at a time.  Perks include good wages and tips, food, excellent training and experience for the right hire plus shop, and camp deals. As the bagger you would be rowing the company raft and don’t have to provide a boat. But if you have  a drift boat as well there good be opportunities for guiding for those qualified.
  • Camp/Shop Help – Want to live in a van down by river and get paid for it? We have openings for camp help. If you have experience in fly fishing, retail, retail management, food service, grounds keeping, house keeping, building maintenance we want to hear from you! This job includes a stipend plus an rv site depending on the level of participation in the business. Full time= free lodging + wages, part time = discounted lodging  and wages depending on hours worked. Must have a presentable rv or camper. This could be a great opportunity for a semi retired person or couple or someone working remotely who wants to make a few bucks or work off some lodging!

Qualifications and how to apply – Please email a cover letter and resume to info@deschutescamp.com. Please list any job qualifications and experiences that you think would apply. Please include descriptions and photos of your self (doing what you love) plus pics of your boat(s), vehicles and RV or campers. All fishing guides will need a current CPR/First Aid card plus OSMB guide license (We can help with this) Fishing guides cannot have any recent fish and game violations or recent motor vehicle violations that that would keep them from being able to acquire a guide license or drive a vehicle. All new hires will need to pass a pre-employment background check by our payroll service. No heavy drinkers, druggies, or drama need apply..

Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you!
